“Where’s your husband? I can’t imagine ANYON $“Where’s your husband? I can’t imagine ANYONE would want to travel to the Maldives ALL BY THEMSELVES???!!!” . Said absolutely no one at any point during my trip. Well, not to my face, at least… . Can’t say I wasn’t a little bit apprehensive travelling solo to what is usually considered a honeymoon destination, but one of the few things I love more than travel is a bargain. And my flight to Malé, capital of the Maldives was an absolute steal. Honeymoon, shmoneymoon. . So, new series: Solo in the #Maldives…with a side of #Bangkok. I’m already home (strictly stories while I’m away - life, like my holiday, is way too short) so have had time to reflect on my trip. Aside from my bargain flights, September is the tail end of the low season so I also got to stay at a bougie boutique 5* resort at a seriously discounted rate. Because I’m worth it. . And, because you can’t drag this girl away from her backpack, I also stepped outside of the international resort ‘bubble’ with a couple of days at a guesthouse on a local island. Same blue sea, same white sand, fraction of the budget (…which actually contributed to the local economy rather than a multinational). Alongside the locals, I ran into backpackers, families, friend groups… and not a honeymooner in sight (tbf they’d probably spend most of their time indoors?!). .
